Rooms are rarely standard, and neither are alcoves, ceiling heights or the gap beside a doorway. If a piece we make is close but not right, tell us what needs to change.
What can be changed
Dimensions
Width, depth and height, to fit a specific space. If you do not have exact measurements yet, say so — we can work from the constraint rather than a number.
Material
Sheesham, mango, acacia or teak. If you are not sure which suits the piece or the room, we will advise.
Finish
Natural, walnut or dark. Finish changes how strongly the grain reads, so it is worth discussing rather than picking from a name alone.
Configuration
Storage arrangement, seating layout and internal division — how many drawers, where the shelves fall, how a piece is split.
We take briefs across the range we make: beds, sofas, sofa beds, dining tables, dining sets, dining chairs, coffee tables, side tables, console tables, study desks, wardrobes, sideboards, bookshelves, chests of drawers, shoe racks, bedside tables, dressers, TV units, armchairs, accent chairs, office chairs and benches.
Not everything is possible, and we will tell you when it is not. Some changes affect how a piece carries load or how it behaves as the wood moves. Where a request would compromise the piece, we will say so and suggest what does work instead.
How it works
Send a brief
Use the Design Your Own Furniture form. Tell us the piece, your requirements, material and finish preferences, a budget range and anything you have in mind. A reference image, room photo or sketch helps more than a paragraph of description.
We review it
Our team looks at whether it can be made as described, and comes back to you. This is a conversation, not an order — submitting a brief commits you to nothing.
We confirm feasibility, price and timeline
Customisation affects cost and lead time, and both depend on what is being changed. You get all three in writing before anything is made.
You approve the specification
The written specification — dimensions, material, finish, configuration, price and timeline — is what we build. Please read it carefully. This is the last point at which the order can be changed or stopped.
We make it
Production starts against the approved specification, and the piece is delivered on the agreed timeline.
Customising an existing product
On product pages that offer choices, the Customise option on the page shows the finishes and sizes that piece is actually available in. That is a variant selection rather than a made-to-order brief, and those orders follow our standard cancellation and returns policies.
Pricing and payment
There is no fixed customisation surcharge, because there is no fixed customisation. A change of finish and a change of structure are not the same amount of work. Both price and lead time are quoted for your specific brief and confirmed in writing before you commit.
Payment terms. Customised orders are paid in two parts: 50% in advance, payable once you have approved the specification and before production begins, and the remaining 50% before dispatch.
Cancellation, returns and warranty
- Cancellation. A customised order can be stopped at any point up to your approval of the specification. Once production has begun it cannot be cancelled, because the piece is being made in your dimensions, material and finish and cannot be sold to anyone else.
- Returns. Customised pieces cannot be returned for change of mind, for the same reason. They are fully covered if they arrive damaged, defective, or not built to the specification you approved.
- Warranty. Customised pieces carry the same 5-year warranty against manufacturing and structural defects as everything else we sell. See Warranty.
What we need from you
- Measure the route as well as the room. A made-to-measure piece that will not go up your stairs is the one mistake that cannot be undone.
- Tell us where the piece will stand — near a window, against an external wall, next to a heat source. It changes what we would recommend.
- Raise questions before you approve the specification, not after.
- Remember that wood varies. A custom piece will match its specification, not a photograph.
